Shiloah Te'o, originally from Laie, Hawai'i, came to Oregon State University from BYU prior to the 2010 season, refocused and ready to prove himself. Defensive Player of the Year, first team all-state for two consecutive seasons (at Kahuku HS) and previous experience at BYU are just some of the many accomplishments in his career. Te'o is ready to make a significant impact for the Beavers this season after being awarded an opportunity that he was worried he wouldn't have again.
The junior, after redshirting last season, is studying construction engineering and happily enjoying his time here. Since Te'o has played at the collegiate level before, it is only a matter of time before we see what he is truly capable of. This powerful player comes to OSU more eager than ever in hopes of learning something new every day.
Q: How has your journey to Oregon State been?
A: "I didn't know where I would end up after being released from BYU -- I got in contact with Coach (Mark) Banker. They've given me the opportunity to come play again and I am really grateful for that second chance."
Q: How do you feel about Oregon State?
A: "I love it; it's a new atmosphere. I l really love my coaches and especially all of my teammates; honestly just everything about it."
Q: How has this experience been different in comparison to your previous playing experiences?
A: "It's a little different, before there were a lot more restrictions and rules that I had to follow. Here, it's much more laid back and it allows me to relax more and focus on playing football."
Q: How do you like working with Coach Banker?
A: "It's amazing; he is a very detailed coach. I'm learning something new from him every practice."
Q: What's the competition like for playing linebacker?
A: "It's been rough. There are so many great linebackers here and we're all competing every day. It's just a matter of who does best each and every day; we're all just grinding."
Q: What do you enjoy doing with your free time?
A: "I like to keep to myself and stay calm. I just kick it with my friends, chill and play video games. Usually I always have to do something, so whenever I get a chance to just sit back and relax it's really nice."
Q: What is your favorite thing about Corvallis?
A: "My favorite thing about Corvallis is all of the opportunities that I have been given here and the experiences that I've had so far."
Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in Corvallis?
A: "My favorite place to eat in Corvallis is the Broken Yolk. I've been a couple and times and I really like the country fried steak with the toast and their jam sauce."
