August 18, 2026 | Football
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State's offense is rounding into form as fall camp rolls on under first-year head coach JaMarcus Shephard. After Tuesday's practice, key offensive players and staff met with the media to talk through the position battles, installs and culture shaping the group heading into scrimmage two.
Offensive coordinator Mitch Dahlen gave an update on the quarterback race ahead of the team's second major scrimmage of camp. He pointed to pre-snap decision-making as the biggest factor separating the competitors, praised the depth at tight end and running back, and singled out transfer additions AJ Newberry and Aeryn "Bubba" Hampton for the SEC experience and big-play ability they bring to the offense.
Newberry and Hampton also spoke with reporters about settling into Corvallis. Newberry is focused on pass protection and conditioning, and on adding his speed to an already physical backfield. Hampton talked about his physical style, his long-standing relationship with Shephard, and his excitement to get on the field for the Beavers this fall.
