Roblez, Whitney Named Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalists

DALLAS – Oregon State right-handed pitchers Albert Roblez and Dax Whitney have been named semifinalists for the Dick Howser Trophy, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced Thursday.
The two comprise two of the 48 semifinalists for the honor, which is given to the nation's top collegiate player. Eighteen pitchers are on the semifinalist list, with just three relievers.
Roblez leads the nation with 14 saves and he comes into the series versus Air Force with a 2-1 record and 1.40 earned run average. The righty, who is also on the watch list for the Stopper of the Year, has given up just 15 hits and seven walks in 25 2/3 innings. He has struck out 45 while allowing just one extra-base hit.
Whitney, meanwhile, ended his season with a 6-1 record and 2.00 ERA, striking out 104 in 63 innings. The Blackfoot, Idaho last pitched on April 24, yet his 104 strikeouts still rank ninth nationally.
The Dick Howser Trophy semifinalists are selected via a vote of the NCBWA's members, which include writers, broadcasters and publicists.
