Dax Whitney Recognized By Baseball America At Season’s Midpoint

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State sophomore Dax Whitney has been named to Baseball America's midseason watch lists for both the Pitcher and Player of the Year, the organization announced Wednesday.

Whitney is one of just two pitchers on both lists, which also includes USC's Mason Edwards. Each watch list contains 15 players from across the country.

Whitney has started seven games this season, amassing a 4-0 record and 1.55 earned run average in 40 2/3 innings. He leads the nation with 78 strikeouts, recording 11 or more in five of his seven starts.

That includes a 17-strikeout performance against Baylor on Feb. 20, which tied the Oregon State single-game record. It's also the most in a single-game nationally this season.

Finalists for each of the honors will be announced May 27.
