Beavers Drop Game at Portland

PORTLAND, ORE.  – The Oregon State men's basketball team fell to Portland 82-76 Saturday evening at the Chiles Center in Portland, Ore.

Olavi Suutela led the Beavers with a career-high 19 points, hitting his first eight shots of the game to finish 8-for-9 from the floor. Johan Munch hit 10-of-14 free throws to end his day with 14 points off the bench.

Yaak Yaak finished in double figures for the second-straight game, going for 10 points and four rebounds, while Dez White also recorded 10. Josiah Lake II ended his evening with 10 points and six assists.

Isaiah Sy pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. With the defeat, the Beavers move to 9-10 on the season and 2-4 in WCC play.

Oregon State opened up an early 10-point lead, as Suutela scored 12 points in the first six minutes of game action. The Pilots answered with an 8-0 run to get within a point with eight minutes to go before the intermission. Portland proceeded to take the lead four minutes later.

The teams traded punches in the latter phase of the opening frame, with Portland taking a 39-38 lead into the break. Suutela and Munch both ended the half in double-figures.

Oregon State retook the lead on a White 3-pointer less than a minute into the second period. The Beavers used an 11-1 run to take a nine-point lead with 13 minutes left on the clock. The Pilots immediately responded to get back within one, and went back in front shortly thereafter.

Portland led by three at the game's final media break, and went on to take the six-point win.

The Beavers will be back at home Wednesday to take on LMU.
