August 30, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Oregon State volleyball team opened the 2025 season on Saturday evening, falling to sixth-ranked Stanford, 3-0 (14-25, 16-25, 21-25), at the Walter Pyramid.
Â
Lauren Rumel, with 14 kills, paced the Beaver offense while Jackie Matias – in her OSU debut – had a team-best 19 assists while Emma Lilo followed with 19 helpers. Also making their collegiate debuts, Maeli Cormier added seven kills while Alana Marrs contributed six.
Â
Defensively, Yasemin Narlioglu dug out seven times while a trio of Cormier, Matias and Rumel each had six. Â
Â
Dating back to the 2024 season, the 14 kills from Rumel marked the third appearance in the last four in double-digits for the stat.
Â
Stanford held the Oregon State offense in check, limiting the Beavers to a .133 hitting rate while registering a .452 clip of their own. Â
Â
The Beavers and Cardinal nearly traded punches in the opening stages of each of the three sets. In the third set, Oregon State inched within two of the Cardinal behind a 5-1 run that included three Rumel kills and another from Alana Marrs to make it 13-11. Kills from Cormier and Rumel let the Beavers draw within three late but one last Cardinal kill sealed the result at 25-21.
Â
The Beavers will conclude play in California tomorrow with a 4 p.m. matchup against Long Beach State, which can be seen on ESPN+.
