Beavers Fall in Season Opener

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Trent Walker hauled in 136 receiving yards to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark for his career in Oregon State's 34-15 season-opening loss to California on Saturday night.

The Beavers (0-1) were led in passing by Maalik Murphy, who tossed 244 yards through the air on 21-of-33 and a touchdown run while Anthony Hankerson also found the endzone on the ground. Walker made nine receptions on the day, with the longest a 31-yard catch – finishing the contest with 1,103 yards in his time at OSU.

Skyler Thomas' pair of pass breakups and 9.0 total tackles led the defense for Oregon State. Jaheim Patterson paced the Beaver defense with six solo stops while adding 8.0 stops.

Cal opened the game's scoring with a pair of first quarter endzone trips to open a 14-0 lead before the Beavers got on the board from Caleb Ojeda's 53-yard kick in the second. The Golden Bears responded with 10 unanswered across the end of the second and beginning of the third to make it a 21-point difference at 24-3.

Hankerson's two-yard rush to the endzone capped an 11 play, 84-yard drive cut into the deficit but the Beavers failed the two-point try in the third.

Ten Golden Bear points sandwiched a Murphy touchdown rush with an unsuccessful two-point play sealed the game at 34-15.
