May 15, 2025 | Baseball
DALLAS – Oregon State shortstop Aiva Arquette and outfielder Gavin Turley have been named semifinalists for the Dick Howser Trophy, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced on Thursday.
The award is given annually to the nation's top collegiate baseball player and Arquette and Turley are two of 64 semifinalists for the honor. Finalists for the 38th annual Dick Howser Trophy will be announced Thursday, June 7.
Arquette comes into Thursday night's series opener versus Long Beach State with a .344 batting average, having started in all 51 of the Beavers' games. He leads the team with 17 home runs, 59 runs batted in, 57 runs scored and a .677 on-base percentage. He's also walked 37 times to 39 strikeouts while successfully stealing six bases.
Arquette is also on the watch list for the Golden Spikes Award and the Brooks Wallace Award, which is given to the top collegiate shortstop.
Turley has also played in all 51 games for the Beavers, and is right behind Arquette with a .340 batting average. He's hit 15 home runs, and has 48 for his career, which is an Oregon State record.
Turley has 56 RBI to go along with 12 doubles, 45 runs and 41 walks. He's also stolen three bases.
It's the second consecutive season and third time in four years the Beavers have two semifinalists for the honor, with Travis Bazzana and Bridger Holmes being recognized in 2024 and Cooper Hjerpe and Jacob Melton in 2022. Bazzana and Hjerpe both eventually named finalists.
Arquette and Turley are aiming to become the second Beaver to earn the honor following Adley Rutschman in 2019.
