Trio Named to Conference All-Academic Team
March 05, 2025 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Kelsey Rees and Kennedie Shuler were named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic First Team while Sela Heide earned honorable mention honors, the league announced on Tuesday.
Â
Requirements for the award included being a returning player with a GPA over 3.2 in the last recorded term. For the Beavers, that was the fall term of 2024. Nominees were also required to be an important contributor on the court who played in more than half of the team's games.
Â
Rees averaged 14.5 points per game in conference play, ranking eighth in the league, and maintains a well over the required 3.2 in her bioengineering master's program. The Aussie also ranked fourth in rebounding with 7.8 per game. Her full-season averages of 13.3 point and 7.7 rebounds are career highs. She was the WCC Player of the Week after scoring 25 and 21 points in road overtime wins over Gonzaga and Portland.
Â
Shuler, a business administration major, ranked sixth in the league with 4.1 assists per game and added 8.9 points against league opponents. The sophomore point guard has played the second-most minutes on the team in league play with 34 per game. Her 1.4 steals per game were second on the team in conference play
Â
Heide was also a strong candidate for the league's sixth player of the year honors with 7.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game off the bench. The senior is earning her master's in public policy with term and overall GPAs easily surpassing 3.2. Heide's 1.6 blocks per game against WCC foes lead the team. Â
Â
All three players were a key part of the WCC's top scoring defense at 60.5 points per game with Shuler often guarding the opponent's lead guard while Rees and Heide protected the rim. The trio helped hold opposing offenses to 37.7 percent shooting in conference play, the league's second-best mark.
Â
Heide, Shuler, Rees and the Beavers head to Las Vegas next where they take on either San Francisco, Santa Clara or LMU on Sunday, March 9 at 11:30 a.m. in the WCC quarterfinals.
