
Track and Field Claims Two First-Place Finishes

Seattle, Wash./Albuquerque, New Mexico – Opening day one of their two-meet weekend, the Oregon State Track and Field team had two first place finishes and three OSU Top 10 marks. Improving her own school record for the fourth time, Jayla Hooper led the Beavs.

Hooper, throwing a weight throw distance of 20.71m/67-11.5, set a new personal record and placed second in Albuquerque today. Hooper's new record now puts a buffer of almost 12 feet between her and the previous record.Â

Setting her own personal best, Beatrice Pettersson posted a throw of 17.95m/58-10.75 in the weight throw. This new record moves the freshman from OSU #5 up to #2. Cinching the number four spot in OSU history, Markayla Billings finished with a distance of 16.71m/54-10.

In the high jump, two Beavers finished first. Lexi Hunt and Dede Norman both finished with a height of 1.77m/5-9.75. This earns a personal best for Hunt. To round out the Beavers, Grace Proudfoot jumped for a height of 1.72m/5-7.75, finishing fourth.

The 200 meters saw two personal bests from OSU. Jada Hurley finished 26th with a new best of 24.44 and Mersayis Shedd earned a new best of 26.48. In the 400 meters, Megan Hatcher finished in 56.54 and Addison Swartzendruber posted a time of 56.76.

The day in Albuquerque ended with pole vault. Claire Lee moved up to OSU #3 with a height of 3.78m/12-4.75, placing sixth overall. Mia Fowler jumped for 14th with a final height of 3.63m/11-10.75. Not far behind, Maddy Juhler finished in 17th with a height of 3.48m/11-5.

In Seattle, the distance squad competed in the mile at the Husky Classic. Leading the team, Kate Laurent placed 10th with a new personal best of 9:16.26. Sage Brooks followed with a time of 9:27.57 for 23rd. Close behind Brooks, Delaney Griffin placed 26th, posting a mark of 9:28.76. Molly Latincsics finshed in 9:32.09 and Erika Cunniam followed with a time of 9:39.71. Jamie Hamlin and Payton Smith both earned personal bests to finish day one. Hamlin posted a time of 9:50.94 and Smith finished in 9:59.23

The Beavers are back again tomorrow for day two. In Albuquerque, the action starts at 9:00 a.m. with shot put and in Seattle the Beavs return at 10:55 a.m. for the mile.
