October 15, 2025 | Men's Soccer
CORVALLIS – The No. 23 Oregon State men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against No. 4 Portland Wednesday evening at Paul Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Ore.
The match was played before a Lorenz Field record of 1,471 fans, after a sell-out was called earlier in the day.
Fran Cortijo scored the lone Beaver goal, opening the scoring in the 14th minute. Arnau Farnos and Andrew De Gannes both tallied assists on the strike.
As a team, Oregon State out-shot Portland 14-8 in the match, and held a 6-5 advantage on corner kicks.
With the tie, OSU moves to 6-3-2 on the campaign, while the Pilots stay undefeated at 9-0-3. The two sides remain deadlocked atop the WCC standings with matching 2-0-2 conference records.
The Beavers created the first scoring chance of the match within the first four minutes of action, as Nico Nee forced a save with a shot from the top of the box. Oregon State went in front in the 14th, as Corijo slotted one home from tight angle off a cross that made it all the way across the Portland goal.
Farnos nearly netted the Beavers second of the match in the 22nd minute, as a beautiful interchange down the left flank led to a ball into the box that found the midfielder six yards from goal. The Pilot keeper reacted quickly to maintain the one-goal deficit.
The Pilots leveled the score in the 29th minute when a scramble in the box resulted with the ball in the Oregon State net. The teams headed to the intermission level at one.
Neither side was able to create a clear-cut scoring chance in the opening phase of the second half. The Pilots created some momentum in the middle portion of the period, coming up with a handful of scoring opportunities.
The two sides kept working through the final minutes of the match, but could not end a breakthrough as the contest ended in a stalemate.
The Beavers will be back in action this weekend when they head to Spokane for a Saturday matchup with Gonzaga.
