
Track and Field Off to Great Start in Reno

RENO, Nev. – Placing first overall, Jayla Hooper improved her own school record for the third time in three meets on day one at the Nevada Invitational.
In Hooper's first meet as a Beaver, the Silver State Invitational, she set the school record in weight throw with a distance of 19.19m/62-11.5 putting almost six feet in between her and number two. At the UW Preview, she made it almost 10 feet. Today, with a new personal best of 20.53m/67-4.25, Hooper has surpassed the previous school record by more than 11 feet.
Just shy of their own personal bests, Beatrice Pettersson and Markayla Billings placed 16th and 17th, respectively. Pettersson recorded a distance of 15.04m/49-4.25 and Billings recorded 14.78m/48-6.
Joining the six-foot club, Dede Norman placed first in high jump with a personal best of 1.83/6-0. Adding two inches to her previous best, Norman moved up to the #3 spot in OSU history. Lexi Hunt reached a height of 1.68m/5-6 to place sixth and Grace Proudfoot placed ninth with a jump of 1.63m/6-4.25
Continuing to move in OSU records, Norman placed third in long jump with a leap of 5.99m/19-8 to move to #2, earning a personal best as well. Joining Norman in the top five, Delaney Bahn jumped a distance of 5.93m/19-5.5 to place fifth.
All three OSU pole vaulters saw Top 10 finishes on day one. Placing fourth, Mia Fowler finished with a new personal best of 3.75m/12-3.5, moving her to second in OSU records. Maddy Juhler also earned a new best of 3.60m/11-9.75 to put her at OSU #6. Rounding out the Top 10, Claire Lee placed ninth with a height of 3.45m/11-3/75.
Jada Hurley led the Beavers in the 200 meter dash, placing 17th with a time of 24.96. Megan Hatcher finished in 25.12 to earn 20th and move to OSU #6. Addison Swartzendruber placed 38th with a time of 26.01 and Mersayis Shedd ran 26.92 for 53rd.
Jayla Hooper and Beatrice Pettersson will start day two off for OSU with shot put at 10:00 a.m.
