CORVALLIS, Ore. – Hitting better than .476 in two sets on Friday night, the Oregon State volleyball team swept in-state foe, Portland State at 25-20, 25-15, 25-17.
The offensive charge from the Beavers (2-7) was led by a pair in double-digit kills from Annika Hester (11) and Vivian Light (10) while Lauren Rumel followed with 9 to her credit. Aiding the effort in assists were a pair of freshmen in Emma Lilo and Yasemin Narlioglu, who turned in 20 and 13, respectively. Defensively, Light used a dozen kills to complete a double-double to keep the Vikings' attack at bay.
"We've been working on our vibe and serving and I know that's what got us the win tonight," said head coach Lindsey Behonick. "I'm grateful for this group and excited for more of these moments!"
As a team, Oregon State tallied eight digs, with three from Lilo and a pair from Narlioglu.

After seven lead changes in the first set, Oregon State never trailed for the rest of the match.
Ready to respond after Tuesday's setback, Oregon State used a surge in the first for the momentum to grab the first lead. The Beavers used a trio of 3-0 runs to build the lead late at 24-17 to push the Vikings early. Despite a late comeback attempt by the visitors, a Viking service error sealed the first set to the Beavers. Light used four key kills to kickstart her night, including a pair late to push the lead to seven while Lilo pushed seven assists to other members of the offense.
With the first set in their back pockets, Oregon State raced out to a 15-9 lead by the media break of the set. In the early stages of the set, the Beavers were putting together a .522 clip highlighted by a barrage of kills by Hester and Rumel. With a small exception of Portland State trimming their deficit to just three at 11-8, the Beavers stretched the lead to as many as 10, which happened three times. Light led the charges on both offense and defense in the set, putting up five kills and five digs.
While hitting .500, the Beavers held Portland State to a measly .065 clip in set two to push them to the brink. The Vikings committed six attack errors compared to just a pair by the Beavers.
Keeping the pressure on PSU, Oregon State closed the match with another emphatic set win. Hitting .476 and limiting the Vikings to just .083, the Beavers secured an eight-point frame win to collect the win. Tied just once – at one apiece -, the Beavers broke the set open with a 7-1 run to make it 8-2 before the visitors could blink. Narlioglu highlighted the run with a pair of service aces while Hester and Rumel combined for three kills.
As PSU crept closer to make it just a six-point cushion, Oregon State slammed the door with a kill by Zaria Thornton and an ace by Lilo to clinch it.
Oregon State will head out on the road to close nonconference play against 12th-ranked Oregon to renew the Rivalry Series. First serve from Eugene is slated for 1 p.m. and can be seen on B1G+.
