UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – The Oregon State women's golf team opened its 2024-25 season with a fourth-place finish at the Leadership and Golf Invitational on Tuesday.
The Beavers concluded the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a 12-over 283-293-300—876 at the par-72, 6,022-yard Chambers Bay Golf Course to record a Top 5 finish.
Kyra Ly led Oregon State on the individual leaderboard, finishing in a tie for 11th place, with an even-par 73-71-72—216. She now has 16 sub-par scores in her career – three as a freshman, 12 as a sophomore and one in her first three rounds as a junior.
Ly narrowly missed posting her fourth career Top 10 finish after getting three last season, including a share of the individual title at the Meadow Club Invitational.
Raya Nakao, who set the Beavers' single-season scoring record last season with a 72.05 as a true freshman, opened her sophomore campaign with a 4-over 72-75-73--220 to finish in a tie for 22nd place. She had 14 sub-par rounds last season and added one in the first tournament this year.
Sophomore Kelly Hope had her best three-round score (6-over 69-75-78—222) and best finish (tie for 30th) as a collegian. She played in three tournaments last season as a true freshman with her best three-round score a 21-over 237 and her best finish a tie for 53rd place. Hope's 3-under 69 in the first round was a career best.
True freshman Clara Alevag, who made her college debut, started off in a sensational way with a 3-under 69 and finished in a tie for 53rd place with a 13-over 69-83-77—229.
Sophomore Rebecca Kim finished in a tie for 69th place with a 17-over 81-72-80—233. The even-par 72 in the second record was a career best, bettering the 1-over 73 she had last season in her 30 rounds of competition.
USC was the only team to finish under par, posting a 5-under 859 to win the title. Riana Mission of San Francisco and Catherine Park shared medalist honors with an 8-under 208.
