
Oregon State Mourns Passing of Hall of Famer John Dustin

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State wrestling program mourns the passing of All-American and National Wrestling Hall of Fame member, John Dustin.
Dustin, a fourth-place finisher at 177 lbs. in both 1957 and 1958, passed away last week.
As a student-athlete in Corvallis, he strung together a 42-5 career mark before giving back to the sport as an assistant at OSU and leading the Marshfield High team from 1962-70. In his stint at the prep level, he guided the student-athletes to eight individual state championships.
On the international stage, Dustin served the sport on the international stage. He managed wrestling competitions at two Olympic games – the 1996 Centennial Games in Atlanta and the 2000 Games in Sydney – as well as three iterations of the Goodwill Games. He lent his time to nearly every organization tied to wrestling imaginable, including USA Wrestling, the Amateur Athletic Union and FILA.
He even was selected to officiate three FILA World Championships, in 1966, 1969 and 1971.
With an impact felt across the world, Dustin was revered by multiple governing bodies outside the U.S., he was honored by the Asian Wrestling Congress, Australia, Mexico, New Zealand and Taipei.
Domestically, he was honored in 2012 with a Lifetime Service to Wrestling award in the state of Oregon and then nationally a year later with the Order of Merit.
