
Beavers Travel to Arkansas for NCAA West Regional Prelims

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Coming off the Pac-12 Championships where four Beavers finished in the top five, Oregon State will compete in the NCAA West Regional Prelims this weekend at John McDonald Field.

Sara Sanders and Maryann Ackerman will start the weekend for the Beavs, competing in the javelin on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. PST
Â
Oregon State will enter the weekend with eight athletes competing in six events. The top-12 finishers in each final will join heptathlon qualifier, Anneke Moersdorf, at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

At the Pac-12 Championships, Oregon State ended the weekend with four athletes ranked top-five in the Pac, finishing in 11th place with 23 points but was on the hunt to move up, finishing only 10 points behind eighth place.

Maryann Ackerman placed sixth in the javelin, cinching three points for OSU with a throw of 50.04m/164-2. Sara Sanders finished 11th with a throw of 46.12m/151.3

Four of the Oregon State's points came from Jade Whitfield in the discus. The junior finished with a throw of 55.97m/183-7, placing her fifth in the Pac.

The next four of the Beavs' points came from Kate Sorensen. Sorensen finished the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.88, improving the school record that she already held. The senior was already qualified for U.S. Olympic Trials and NCAA West Prelims coming into the weekend.

Sage Brooks led OSU in the 5,000 meters, finishing 20th with a time of 17:37.55.

Earning another point for OSU, Molly Latincsics finished with a time of 36:13.76 in the 10K. Halfway through the race, the sophomore pulled away from the ninth place finisher to secure the eighth spot for herself.

Qualifying Beavers will compete close to home in at the University of Oregon in Eugene for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 8.
