
Eight Beavers Qualify for West Regional Prelims

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Eight Oregon State athletes have punched their tickets to the 2024 NCAA West Regionals. The Beavs will travel to to John McDonald Field in Fayetteville, Arkansas on May 23-25.

Kate Sorensen qualified for the NCAA West Regional Prelims in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.99 seconds at the Pac-12 Championships, where she placed fifth. Leading both the current Oregon State University team and the all-time records, Sorensen's performance marks a significant improvement from her season opener at the Stanford Invite, where she clocked a time of 59.76. This is Sorensen's first regional appearance with Oregon State and her fourth overall.Â

Adeal Scatena qualified for 400 hurdles as well after clocking in a 58.10 at the OSU High Performance Meet. This race was her personal best and improved the no. 2 mark in Oregon State history. This is Scatena's second-straight regional appearanceÂ

Jade Whitfield secured her spot in the prelims in the discus with a throw of 58m/190-3, achieved at the Pacific Coast Invitational. The school-record-holder and returning All-American surpassed the previous OSU record by over 14 feet with a 58.33/191-6 throw last year. This is Whitfield's second-straight regional appearance.Â

After throwing a personal best of 50.33m/165-1 at the OSU PNW Invitational, Maryann Ackerman locked in her spot in javelin. Ackerman leads the current Oregon State squad with this personal best and is third in school records. At the Pac-12 Championships, she finished in sixth place, throwing 4.21 meters further than she did at the same event last year. This is Ackerman's second consecutive regional appearance.

Delaney Bahn qualified in the long jump with a personal best of 6.16m/20-2.5, which she earned at the Pacific Coast Invite. Consistently jumping 6.10m and above this season, Bahn leads the current Oregon State team and ranks second in OSU's school history. This is Bahn's second consecutive regional appearance. Â

Sage Brooks qualified in the 5,000 meters with a personal best of 16:06.24, achieved at the OSU High Performance meet. Currently leading the Oregon State squad, Brooks' shaved 10 seconds off her previous best, placing her fifth in OSU's all-time record books. This is Brooks' first regional appearance.Â

Dede Norman qualified in the high jump. The freshman cleared a height of 1.79m/5-10.5 at the Beach Invitational to earn a personal best and punch her ticket to regionals. Norman is fifth in Oregon State records, the highest-ranked freshman on that list. She currently leads OSU's high jump squad after placing fifth at the Pac-12 Championships. This is Norman's first regional appearance.

Sara Sanders qualified in the javelin with a season-best throw of 46.85m/153-8 at the OSU High Performance meet. Despite missing the last two years of competition due to injury, Sanders' throw was only four feet short of her personal best, pre-injury of 47.86m/157-0 which has kept her at number six in Oregon State records. This is Sanders' second regional appearance.
