Beavers Battle Cardinal, Cal at Gill
February 29, 2024 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – An exciting final weekend of Pac-12 regular season action awaits at Gill Coliseum this weekend as Oregon State braces for a showdown against No. 4 Stanford on Thursday, followed by a clash against Cal on Saturday.
Â
The Beavers are looking for redemption against the Cardinal, who they held to 41.5% shooting - which falls among Stanford's lowest shooting percentages of the season – in a loss at Maples Pavilion. OSU look to notch another win against Cal on Saturday after a comeback win on the road. The Beavers lead the series against the Bears, including this season's win on the road.Â
Â
By virtue of their season series sweeps over Colorado and Utah, the Beavs need just one win this weekend to clinch a top-4 seed and first round bye in the Pac-12 Tournament. Winning both opens up possibilities that include a Pac-12 regular season championship depending on results elsewhere in the league.

ON LOCKDOWN
Once again demonstrating their dominant defense, Oregon State has stifled 11 of their opponents offenses, holding them at least 10 points below their season scoring average. Within the Pac-12, the Beavers limited seven teams to scores notably beneath their season averages: twice against Utah (-36/-14), USC (-16.3/-18.3), and Colorado (-15.2/-18.9), and against Oregon (-20), Washington State (-18.8), Stanford (-14.1), and UCLA (-15.3). The Beavs held then-No. 20 Utah, No. 4 Colorado, No. 9 USC, and Oregon to season-low scoring outputs (44 at Utah, 59 at Colorado, 56 vs. USC, 41 vs. Oregon).
Â
GOTTA BE THREE
The Pac-12 three-point percentage leader, Lily Hansford has 43 made baskets this year, 39 of them from behind the arc. It only took 21 games for Hansford to get a 2-pointer before she put two in from backdoor cuts against Colorado. Unable to score fewer than three twice in a row, Hansford's second layup was an and-one
Â
PLANTING SEEDS
Timea Gardiner is proving to be an impact player in her sophomore season. The former McDonald's All-American recorded her third double-double of the year against her home-state school with 14 points and 11 rebounds against then-no. 16 Utah. She's second on the team in scoring with 10.7 points and with 6.6 boards per game. The Beavs' first player off the bench is a frontrunner for Pac-12 6th Woman of the Year.
