Kyra Ly Leads Beavers In Second Round Of Pac-12 Preview

KAILUA-KONA, Hawai'i – Kyra Ly carded a 1-under 72 to lead the Oregon State women's golf team in the second round of the Pac-12 Preview on Tuesday.
The Beavers jumped a spot to seventh place in the 12-team field with an 8-over 294-298--592 at the par-73, 6,449-yard Nanea Golf Club. Oregon State is only two strokes behind San Jose State (6-over 590) and has a chance to finish in the top half of the tournament with 18 holes to play.
The final round of the three-day event begins at 9:30 a.m. PT on Wednesday with a shotgun start and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Ly, a sophomore from Portland, had four birdies and three bogeys in the second round, and now has seven sub-par scores this season and 10 in her two-year Oregon State career. She jumped 10 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 22nd place with a 1-over 75-72--147.
Her best career score is a 3-under 69 at the Illini Women's Invitational and NCAA Regionals as a freshman and the Ron Moore Intercollegiate this past fall. Ly's best career finish is a tie for fourth place at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate this past October. She has two career Top 10 finishes, both during her sophomore campaign.
True freshman Raya Nakao fired an even-par 73 for the second-straight day, including two birdies and two bogeys in the second round, and sits in a team-high tie for 16th place with a 146. Nakao had two Top 5 finishes (Dick McGuire Invitational and Molly Collegiate Invitational) in the fall and narrowly missed a Top 10 placing with a tie for 11th at the Stanford Intercollegiate.
Chayse Gomez dropped in six birdies on Tuesday, but had two double-bogeys and three bogeys, to finish with a 1-over 74. She is tied for 24th place in the 60-player field with a 3-over 75-74--149 and shares the lead with two other golfers with 10 birdies through the first two rounds.
Gomez, a fifth-year senior, has five career Top 10 finishes with four of those coming last season when she led the team with a scoring average of 73.61.
True freshman Kelly Hope knocked four strokes off her first round score, shooting a 6-over 79, and moved three spots up the leaderboard and into 55th place with a 16-over 83-79--162. She had two birdies in the second round after posting none the first day of the tourney.
Madde Sund, who opened the tournament with a 2-under 71, slipped a bit in the second round with an 8-over 81 and is tied for 36th place with a 6-over 152.
UCLA and Stanford share the team lead with a 7-under 577, while USC is a stroke back at 6-under 578. Paula Martin Sampedro of Stanford took over the individual lead with a 7-under 69-70--139.
