Beavers Hand UC Irvine Its First Loss of Season

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's basketball team handed UC Irvine its first loss of the 2024-25 season, as the Beavers claimed a 67-55 win Saturday afternoon at Gill Coliseum.
The win moves OSU to 7-2 on the year and drops UCI to 9-1.
Damarco Minor led the Beavers with 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals. Michael Rataj had 13 points and four rebounds, while Parsa Fallah had 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Josiah Lake II had four points and five steals off the bench, while Isaiah Sy went 3-for-3 from the floor and 2-for-2 from 3-point range to end his game with eight points.
As a team, Oregon State shot 46.2 percent from the floor, while holding the Anteaters to 37.0 percent shooting. The Beavers are currently holding opponents to 37.3 percent shooting on the year.
Oregon State exploded out of the gate, scoring 11-straight points to take an early 14-2 lead. UC Irvine battled back with seven unanswered points to get back within five. The teams traded punches from there for the bulk of the opening 20 minutes, as the Beavers headed to the break leading 34-30.
OSU steadily added to the advantage early in the second half, bringing the lead to double-figures less than three minutes into the period. The Beavers maintained the advantage from there, taking the win by 12.
Oregon State celebrated the 75th anniversary of Gill Coliseum in the contest, as the building hosted its first men's basketball game on Dec. 16, 1949.
The Beavers will be back at Gill Coliseum Tuesday to host Sacramento State.
