Beavers Drop Tournament Opener to Minnesota

TEMPE, Ariz. – Oregon State dropped Saturday's Briann January Classic opener 73-38 to Minnesota.
Kelsey Rees led the Beavers with nine points and blocked two shots. Sela Heide grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Defense kept the Beavers in the game during the first quarter, holding Minnesota to 31.3 percent shooting from the floor and trailing 13-11. Five OSU players scored, led by threes from Kennedie Shuler and Tiara Bolden.
Shuler nailed another triple in the second, part of a 5-0 spurt that cut the Minnesota lead to 21-18. Heide muscled up for a basket inside as well, but the Gophers responded with a 7-0 run to close the first half and headed to the break up 30-20.
Minnesota pulled away in the third, winning the period 22-16. Rees scored five to lead the Beavs, getting to the line twice and cashing in three shots.
The Beavs close out the Briann January Classic on Sunday when they take on host Arizona State at 1:30 p.m. PT. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
