Sydney Gonzales Leads Beaver Gymnastics At California

BERKELEY, Calif. – Senior Sydney Gonzales was sensational and led the Oregon State gymnastics team in a 197.950-196.775 loss to No. 2 California on Saturday afternoon at Haas Pavilion.
The Beavers, ranked 16th nationally, started on the uneven bars and scored a 49.150 as Jennifer McMillan led the way with a 9.875. Ellie Weaver posted a 9.850 and Natalie Briones score a 9.825, while Taylor DeVries, Sage Thompson and Jade Carey all finished with a 9.800.
The second rotation for Oregon State was the vault and the team finished with a 49.150 led by Sydney Gonzales' 9.875. Kaitlin Garcia, Sophia Esposito and Thompson all scored a 9.825, and Briones capped the team's scoring on the event with a 9.800.
After the midway point of the meet, the Beavers took to the floor and posted a 49.325. Garcia was spectacular with a career-best 9.900 that bettered the score of 9.875 that she had earlier this season at the Mean Girls Super 16 Championships in Las Vegas and against Brown. Esposito had a career-best 9.875 bettering the score of 9.625 that she had at the first event as a collegian at the Super 16 in Vegas. The 9.825 for Briones equaled her best career score on the floor that she first posted at the Pac-12 Championships on March 19, 2022.
In the final rotation on the beam, Oregon State posted a 49.150 led by Gonzales' 9.925. Young had a 9.825, while true freshman Olivia Buckner posted her best score at Oregon State with a 9.800. She had a fall on the event at the Super 16, finishing with a 9.125, and carded a 9.675 in an exhibition at the Rutgers January Quad. Esposito and Carey also had a 9.800.
