Sophia Esposito Named Pac-12 Newcomer Of The Week
January 23, 2024 | Women's Gymnastics
CORVALLIS, Ore. – True freshman Sophia Esposito was named the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The Pac-12 Conference has awarded 12 weekly honors through the first three weeks of the season, and the Beavers have claimed six of them -- Natalie Briones, Coaches' Choice; Jade Carey, Specialist (two times); Taylor DeVries, Newcomer; Sophia Esposito, Newcomer; and Sage Thompson, Coaches' Choice.
Esposito, a native of Melville, N.Y., earned her first career Pac-12 weekly award after helping lead the Beavers to a convincing win over Brown, 197.575-192.950, this past weekend at Gill Coliseum.
She had a great meet against Brown with career highs in all three events that she competed. Esposito won the vault event with a 9.900, finished third on the beam with a 9.900 and finished in a tie for fourth on the floor with a 9.875.
The 9.900 on the vault equaled her best career score that she first posted at the Rutgers January Quad. Her previous best career scores were 9.825 on the beam and 9.625 on the floor.
