Sharing My Story - Grace Messmer
January 17, 2024 | Softball
Thinking back to five years ago to the beginning of my Oregon State academic and athletic journey, I chose it because of the atmosphere, Division I level, the location and my coach. As an international student from British Columbia, Canada, I was looking for a home away from home and Oregon State was it.
Â
Dreaming as a little girl of playing softball at the Division I school and having the dream come to light has been amazing. My experience at Oregon State these past five years has taught me many life lessons which is shaping me into the woman I want to become. Lessons of finding my voice, being resilient, understanding true leadership and much more. Oregon State has given me my forever friends, memories and life lessons.
Â
Not only have I been fortunate enough to wear the "Beavers" name across my chest but also wearing representing my country. Proud is an understatement for how honored I am to represent my home country. My international experiences have brought me to places all around the world such as Chile, Italy and across the United States. But all the different cultures, memories, and accomplishments my sport has given me is truly life-changing. My top accomplishments being a World Series debut, Junior Canadian National Team, making history with a bronze medal at the World Championships and Senior Canadian National Team bronze medal in Pan American Games 2023.
Â
My biggest accomplishment is achieving my Bachelors of Science Marketing and my Masters of Business Administration with specialization in Marketing. Pursuing a job in the sports or content marketing field is what I have been working towards for my career. However, none of these goals, dreams or accomplishments would have been possible without my coach taking a chance on me or without the support of my parents, Jeff and Tracy Messmer.
