Ciao Beavs Day 5: The David and The City of Lilies
August 23, 2023 | Women's Basketball
FLORENCE, Italy – The Oregon State women's basketball team hit the road for Florence on Wednesday and made the four-plus hour drive worthwhile by exploring the city's vibrant downtown and seeing some of it's well-known art.
Â
The Beavers went immediately from the drive to the Florence Academia, home of much of the city's best art including Michelangelo's The David, and a neighbor to one of the world's oldest art schools. A guided tour of the gallery also included many paintings from the time and a section full of early violins and cellos.
From there, OSU's travel party embarked on a guided tour of the city. The Beavs took in St. John's square in the middle of the city as well as Ponte Vecchio before wandering through the city's vibrant shopping districts. After the tour, the Beavs had free time to shop, rest or enjoy the famous city.
Â
Oregon State reunited to enjoy the world-renowned Bistecca alla Fiorentina for dinner. Then, the coaching staff had a surprise in store with a trip for gelato at Venchi – a local store that offers exceptional chocolate with the gelato. The team then once again enjoyed time to shop for friends, family or themselves throughout Florence.
The Beavers will use Florence as home base for the next two days as well, visiting Cinque Terre and Lucca before playing their first game on Friday.
Â
A livestream of the game is unlikely, though hosting teams may provide it if they choose to. Scores will be made available on social media and osubeavers.com after the contests. Â
