Ciao Beavs Day 4: The World’s Second-Best Coliseum (or Colosseum)
August 22, 2023 | Women's Basketball
ROME – Oregon State spent its second day in Rome surrounded by history, visiting the Colosseum, Pantheon, Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain on Tuesday.
The Beavers began the day by meeting with their tour guide and walking through Rome to the Coliseum. Along the way, OSU hit the Spanish Steps and Altare della Patria, stopping for pictures at each.
The group also customarily tossed coins into the Trevi Fountain and picked up gelato at one of the four shops in the area before continuing on to the Colosseum.
Once there, the team made its way inside, stopping for photos and a history lesson where Caesar would watch the Gladiator battles and then continuing upstairs to the upper level for more photos and more history.
Assistant Coach Deven Hunter encouraged the team to do their best Russell Crowe impersonation from the movie 'Gladiator,' to which the Beavs happily obliged throughout the visit.
After dinner, the Beavers had one more activity in store. The staff surprised the team with an Amazing Race-style game sending them to many of Rome's famous historical spaces. Starting at the Colosseum, three teams competed to get a photo at four locations with a stranger taking the picture and another one in the photo.
The team of AJ Marotte, Martha Pietsch, Kelsey Rees and Kennedie Shuler came out on top, completing the task and returning to the Colosseum in an hour. The group was so fast that they were the first to the Pantheon despite it being the last location on their list.
With bragging rights in hand, the four Beavs will certainly enjoy Wednesday's bus ride to Florence just a bit more. For the latest on the trip to Italy and all things Oregon State Women's Basketball, follow @BeaverWBB on Instagram, Twitter, Threads and Facebook.
