Nicolas Quintero To Join Oregon State Men’s Golf For 2023-24 Season
June 28, 2023 | Men's Golf
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State men's golf head coach Jon Reehoorn announced Wednesday that Nicolas Quintero will join the program for the 2023-24 season.
Quintero is transferring from Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla., where the Cali, Colombia native has competed for four years.
"I'm excited to add someone with the experience of Nicolas to our program," Reehoorn said. "He comes to us from Barry in Florida where they expect to compete for a National Championship at the Division II level each year. He has played a major role in their success the past two seasons.
"Nicolas has represented his country, Colombia, on the biggest stage in the Eisenhower Trophy this past year and represented himself and his country well against some of the best players in the world."
Quintero, most recently, was named to the Sunshine State Conference's All-SSC First Team, a year after claiming second team honors. This past year, he competed in nine tournaments, placing in the top 10 five times. He took second at the Otter Invitational in Seaside, Calif., shooting an 8-under 208. He also took third at the NSU Shark Invitational, finishing with a 6-under 207.
He recorded seven top-20 finishes as a junior in 2021-22 and picked up his first tournament win at the Sunshine State Conference tournament, shooting a 7-under 209.
Quintero has competed in 33 tournaments during his collegiate career, totaling 96 rounds. He's averaged 72.36 shots per round, with 18 rounds in the 60s. He's finished at par or better in 48 rounds.
He joins an Oregon State program that advanced to its fourth consecutive NCAA Regional in 2022-23, and the seventh under Reehoorn. The 2022-23 Beavers competed in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, and were led by outgoing senior Carson Barry, who completed his OSU career having competed in 144 rounds as a Beaver. Oregon State returns upperclassman Mateo Fuenmayor, who won the Duck Invitational, as well as Jackson Lake, who will be a senior in 2023-24 and who tallied eight sub-par rounds last season.
