Fetherstonhaugh Named Pac-12 Track Athlete of the Year

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State's Grace Fetherstonhaugh earned Pac-12 Track Athlete of the Year honors, the conference announced on Friday, making her the first Beaver to earn any of the league's major end-of-season honors.

Fetherstonhaugh earned the award a week after winning Oregon State's first two Pac-12 event titles in school history. The redshirt senior's historic double came in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000 meters, winning both on back-to-back days. Her efforts were integral in helping the Beavers post their best-ever finish by points (55) and place (8th) at the Pac-12 Championships.

The Canadian currently owns the nation's second-best time in the steeplechase (9:39.23) – set in her historic win on Saturday - and eighth-best in the 5K (15:30.55). Her efforts throughout the season included a third top-10 national time in the 1,500 meters (4:11.00), which was the national leader early in the year.

With a season of eligibility left in cross country and indoor track, Fetherstonhaugh has cemented herself – along with teammate Kaylee Mitchell – as one of the greatest runners in school history. She completed a trifecta in the fall, earning All-America honors in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.

Fetherstonhaugh will look to put a bow on her outdoor track legacy over the next three weeks. Her and nine other Beavs now head to Sacramento, Calif. for the NCAA West Regionals on May 25-27. Â She and Mitchell are expected to be contenders for the national title in the steeplechase.
