CORVALLIS, Ore. – Travis Bazzana stole an Oregon State record five stolen bases and Mason Guerra tallied three hits as Oregon State defeated Seattle, 8-2, in a midweek matchup Tuesday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Bazzana singled twice and tied a career-best with four runs scored. He stole both second and third in the first after singling and took second after a third-inning walk. He stole second after reaching on an error in the sixth and broke the single-game record on another steal of second after singling in the eighth.
The record had been reached twice previously, by Steve Lyons in 1979 and David Anderson in 1991.
Guerra had three of Oregon State's 11 hits on the night, singling in the first, third and fifth innings. He also walked in the eighth.
Seattle (11-22 overall) scored first but the Beavers scored the game's next seven runs. Ruben Cedillo highlighted a three-run with a two-run single. Oregon State (25-11), which extended its win streak to seven games, extended the lead in the sixth when Garret Forrester singled home a pair.
Tanner Smith made it 7-1 on a two-out double in the seventh, and, after Seattle scored one in the eighth, watched as Guerra walked with the bases loaded to make it 8-2 in favor of OSU.
Guerra also had two RBI, joining Forrester and Cedillo for the team lead.
Rhett Larson, the first of five Beaver relievers, picked up the win to improve to 2-1 on the year. He scattered two hits in two scoreless.
