
Beavers Take Down Trojans

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's basketball team took an emphatic 86-70 win over USC Saturday evening at Gill Coliseum.
Tyler Bilodeau set a career-high with 26 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the floor. Jordan Pope finished with 20 points and six assists, while Dexter Akanno scored 18 on 6-for-8 shooting.
KC Ibekwe came up with nine points, including a pair of big 3-point plays in the second half. Christian Wright hit a pair of 3-pointers in the winning effort.
As a team, Oregon State shot 59.6 percent from the floor and 47.1 percent from beyond the arc. The Beavers led by as many as 23 points in the contest, and were in front for 33 minutes of game time.
The two teams traded punches early on, as the Beavers and Trojans were level at 17 eight minutes into the contest. Oregon State knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to take a seven-point lead with six minutes to go before the break.
The Beavers headed to the intermission up 39-30.
Oregon State continued to press the advantage early in the second half, extending the lead to 16 three minutes into the closing period. The Beavers extended the gap to 20 shortly thereafter.
USC answered with a 9-0 run to get back within 11, but OSU responded with eight unanswered points to bring the lead to 58-39. The Beavers would go in front by as many as 23, before a late USC surge to the Trojans within 12 with just over four minutes to go.
Oregon State continued to maintain control down the stretch, as Akanno and Bilodeau came up with important buckets to cement the victory.
The Beavers will hit the road next week for a Thursday matchup with Washington State.
