Pac-12 Slate, Title Defense Open in the Valley
• No. 20/17/16 Oregon State will open the conference season in the valley where the Pac-12 title defense will start against CSU Bakersfield on Saturday night.
• Last season in Corvallis, the Beavers romped over the Roadrunners and took nine of the 10 bouts en route to a convincing 43-4 win. OSU used three pins, a pair of major decisions and a technical fall to secure the 39-point win inside Gill Coliseum in January.
• The Beavers and Roadrunners will meet for the 42nd time in a series that dates back to 1977 and holds a 28-13 advantage in the series. Oregon State has won the last three in a row and five of the last six, including both meetings in the Pendleton era.
• Cal State Bakersfield has a common nonconference foe with the Beavs in Wyoming. Last month, the Cowboys defeated the Roadrunners by a 40-3 margin in Bakersfield.
• When these sides last met in Bakersfield, the Beavers won nine of the 10 bouts on the way to a dominant 39-5 win. Trey Muñoz picked up a win by fall (3:27), Brandon Kaylor won by decision (9-4) and Matthew Olguin took a win by technical fall (24-9) over their CSUB opposition.
Cliff Keen Lookback
• Oregon State finished competition at the Cliff Keen Invitational with a fifth-place finish in Las Vegas.
• Travis Wittlake (174) continued his hot start to the season and finished second in his weight class. He defeated Navy's 30th-ranked Adam Wask by decision in a thrilling semifinal before falling in the championship round.
• Earlier in the season, he claimed the 174 lb. division championship at the Southeast Open in Salem, Va. back in November.
Wrestlers of the Week
• In five weeks of the season, two Beavs - Gabe Whisenhunt (133) and Brandon Kaylor (125) - have taken the Pac-12's Wrestler of the Week honors. Both were received following ranked wins.
