Oregon State Opens December Against Hilltoppers at 2pm
December 01, 2023 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State is off to a 5-0 start for the first time in four years and will look to make it six in a row when it squares off with Western Kentucky at 2 p.m.
Â
The Beavers and Hilltoppers will duel for the fourth time and the first in Corvallis. OSU and WKU have met three times: twice in the NCAA Tournament – which they split 1-1 with a loss in 1995 and a win in 2018 – and once in the Vancouver Showcase in 2019, a Beaver victory.

STARTING FIVE
CERTIFIED BUCKET-GETTER
Talia von Oelhoffen joined an exclusive list of Rueck-era Beavers when she scored 31 points against USC as a freshman. Only six other Beavs have scored 30+ over the last 13 seasons: Jamie Weisner, Marie Gulich, Aleah Goodman, Ruth Hamblin, Kat Tudor and Destiny Slocum. Even among that highly-touted group, von Oelhoffen now stands alone as the first Beaver under Rueck to score 30+ multiple times in her career after dropping 32 on Eastern Washington and 41 on Nevada last season. She is the 10th Beaver to score 30+ points 3-or-more times in her career and the first since Kim Butler ('04-'06)
Â
PLANTING SEEDS
Despite missing half of her freshman season - and much of the time most first-year players have to get acclimated to the college game - Timea Gardiner is making an impact early in her sophomore season. The former McDonald's All-American recorded her first double-double against UC Davis with 16 points and 13 rebounds. She's also second on the team in scoring and rebounding with 9.6 points and 7.4 boards per game.
Â
BEAVS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Oregon State hopes that Martha Pietsch (Germany), Kelsey Rees (Australia), Susana Yepes (Colombia) and Dominika Paurova (Czech Republic) are next in a long line of international Beavers to earn All-Pac-12 honors. Tanja Kostic (Sweden), a four-time all-league selection, was the first international Beav to be named All-Pac-12, followed more recently by players like Marie Gulich (Germany) and Ruth Hamblin (Canada), two centers who were named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the year during their time in Corvallis.
