Beavers Jump To Sixth Place With 18 Holes To Play In Colorado
October 07, 2023 | Women's Golf
HIGHLANDS RACH, Colo. – Kyra Ly carded a 2-under 70 for the third-straight round and Raya Nakao continued her strong play to lead the Oregon State women's golf team at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate on Saturday.
The Beavers jumped a spot to sixth place with 18 holes to play after posting a 5-under 286-285--571 at the par-72, 6,648-yard University of Denver Golf Club. It's the fourth time in the last five rounds Oregon State has been under par.
The final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday and live scoring is available at BirdieFire.com.
Ly, a sophomore from Portland, has been on fire of late with three-straight 70's -- the final round of the Molly Collegiate Invitational on September 26 and the first two rounds of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate. She dropped in five birdies in each of the last two rounds and is tied for ninth place with a 4-under 140.
Her best career finish is a tie for sixth place at the Leadership and Golf Invitational (1-under 72-72-71--215) earlier this fall. Ly's best three-round score is a 2-under 214 at the NCAA Regionals in Westfield, Ind., last spring.
Nakao, a true freshman from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, has been outstanding to begin her college career with six of her 11 rounds in red figures and two Top 5 finishes in the Beavers' first three events. She has a chance to finish at the top of the leaderboard again, sitting in a tie for 19th place after 36 holes with a 1-under 73-70--143.
The frosh had five birdies in Saturday's round with three of them coming in the last four holes. Nakao had three birdies in the first round but took a double-bogey on the par-3 13th hole that kept her from another sub-par score.
Chayse Gomez and Madde Sund are both tied for 23rd place with an even-par 144, as Gomez posted scores of 70-74 and Sund moved up the leaderboard after shooting a 1-under 71 in the second round after opening the tourney with a 1-over 73.
Host Denver looks to have the team title in hand with a 26-under 550, which is 14 strokes better than Kansas and California that are both tied for second place with a 12-under 564.
