Utah and Colorado Up Next for Beavers
October 04, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Continuing on with league play, the Oregon State volleyball team will head back on the road for matches against Utah and Colorado this weekend.
THE OPPOSITION
Oregon State (5-9, 0-4 Pac-12) ventures east to Salt Lake City and Boulder to take on Utah (7-7, 2-2 Pac-12) and Colorado (9-6, 1-3 Pac-12) for their second conference road trip of the season.
Back in 2022, the Beavers split the pair of meetings with the Buffaloes (each side winning at home) and dropped both matches to the Utes, including a five-set affair in Salt Lake City.
MARVELOUS MYCHAEL
In the league, Mychael Vernon sits in the top-20 in six statistical categories, including four inside the top-10.
• 206.5 points (10th)
• 4.0 pts/s (9th)
• 174 kills (10th)
• 3.41 k/s (10th)
• 127 digs (19th)
• 2.49 d/s (20th)
Her four double-doubles also leads the Beavs. Three of those came in a five-match stretch, including two in consecutive days. She tallied 26 kills - a career-best - and 11 digs in the five-set match at Cal Baptist to wrap up the Riverside Classic in early September.
She surpassed the 800-kill mark in Sunday's match against Washington and became the 24th Beav in history to tally at least 800 kills. Sitting at 811, she'll move past Carol Sears (813; 1983-86) with just three more.
LETHAL LAUREN
In just her first season with the Beavs after transferring from Arizona, Lauren Rumel has made an instant impact. The Tucson, Arizona, native has registered a .320 hitting percentage, which paces the Beavs and sits 15th in the Pac-12. She's accounted for 95 kills to just 22 errors on 228 total attempts this season.
TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK
Three new Beavs - Amanda Burns, Elizabeth Schuster and Ava Pitchford - find themselves in the top 15 in the league in assists. Burns has 204 (4.08 a/s) and sits in 13th, Schuster right behind with 150 (3.85) and Pitchford is at 15th with 100 (3.04) to round out the trio. Ryan White sits not far behind them at 20th with 54 (1.23).
OH, WE DIG THAT
White's 174 digs lead the Beavs and is good for ninth in the league. The libero has notched double-digits in six, including a career-best of 24, set in the five-set win over Nevada back on Sept. 8 in Riverside, Calif. Her 3.41 digs/set place her in seventh in the Pac-12. She's had seven matches with double-figures in the category.
ADJUST THE CLOCK
For just the second time this season and first since the season-opening weekend, the Beavs wil play outside of the Pacific Time Zone.
