CORVALLIS, Ore. – Making a return to his home state following a decorated four seasons at Oklahoma State, Travis Wittlake has signed onto the Oregon State wrestling team for the 2023-24 campaign. The Coos Bay, Oregon, native, he earned All-America honors twice with the Cowboys after totaling 79 wins while in Stillwater.
Wittlake burst onto the scene at the 165 lb. slot in 2019-20, his first season as a Cowboy starter, winning 28 of 30 bouts. He led the squad in wins, dual wins and takedowns on the way to a Big 12 title, the No. 4 seed at the NCAAs and a NWCA All-American nod.
His second season was also impressive with a 14-0 start that culminated in a 22-3 record and a perfect 10-0 in duals in 2020-21. He defeated six ranked opponents on his way to a third-place finish at the Big 12 championship and a fourth-place finish at the NCAAs to cap his second season as an All-American. He vaulted to as high as No. 2 in Intermat's polls after four ranked wins. On the Cowboys, he placed second in takedowns (84) to go along with 10 wins by bonus points: five by major decision, four tech falls and a pin.
He ended his time in Stillwater with a new weight class, upping to 197 and the success was still there. Wittlake started the 2022-23 season with 9-1 mark that finished at 20-7 with an 11-4 record in dual action and the 10th seed at the NCAAs. Inside the 9-1 run was a championship at the Southern Scuffle.
Prepped at Marshfield High School, Wittlake won four state titles behind an impressive 196-2 mark and even was a four-time All-American. He was twice selected as the Wrestler of the Year in the state and even tabbed as Nike's Oregon Athlete of the Year. Additionally, he took first in Greco and third in freestyle in Fargo in 2015 and twice won the United World Wrestling Cadet national champ.
