
Beavers Bested By Buffs

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's soccer team fell to Colorado 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Paul Lorenz Field.
Gwen Jacobs found the net for the Beavers, heading in the game's opening goal. The tally was Jacob's first of the season, and came off an assist from Mia Erba.
As a team, Oregon State held a 14-13 advantage on shots in the match.
With the defeat, the Beavers move to 3-4-4 on the season.
Oregon State opened the scoring less than four minutes into the match, as Jacobs headed home a cross that bounced off the crossbar and into the net. The Buffaloes evened things up six minutes later.
Hailey Coll came up with a big save in the Beaver net in the 24th minute, diving to her right to parry the ball out of play. Colorado took the lead in the 26th.
McKenna Martinez took aim in the 37th minute, but her swerving effort drifted just over the bar. The Buffaloes carried a 2-1 edge into the intermission.
Martinez came close to evening things up, as she fired a shot just over the bar in the 48th minute. Erba found herself in on goal in the 83rd, but she was flagged offside. Martinez had a shot to level the score from 12 yards out moments later, but her effort was saved.
Oregon State continued to attack in the closing minutes of the match, but Colorado was able to wind down the clock to secure the victory.
Individually, Martinez recorded seven shots in the match, bringing her career total to 182 shots taken – 12 short of third on OSU's career shots list.
The Beavers will return to action Thursday when they hit the road to take on UCLA.
