No. 16 Oregon State Records Season High 197.275 in 12th-Straight Victory at Gill

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Seventeen of Oregon State's gymnastics 21-member roster competed in the lineup or in an exhibition routine, as the GymBeavs showed their depth en route to posting a season-best 197.275 to defeat the 194.150 of Rutgers on Friday night at Gill Coliseum.

"We've been working towards having the opportunity to show our depth all year," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "We've told the girls that we want to be able to insert anyone into the lineup, the score doesn't change, and we record a great team score regardless of who we put in. It was great to see, especially on floor, with four people in the lineup that haven't been competing. Our team did a great job tonight and I'm really proud of them."

With the start of Pac-12 competition looming on Sunday at UCLA, the Beavs played with the lineup, presenting opportunities for new faces to compete, including three freshmen on bars and three floor routines outside the normal rotation for the Orange and Black.

Sophomore Jade Carey took home titles on vault, bars and beam to bring her to 59 event titles, while teammate Lauren Letzsch took home the floor crown with a career-high matching 9.950.

OSU kept things the same on vault as the previous three meets to record a 49.225 to open the meet. Karlie Chavez made her 2023 debut in the exhibition spot, after nursing an injury to begin the season.

With three freshmen in the lineup in Ellie Weaver, Francesca Caso and Jennifer McMillan, the young guns proved they were up to the task, as the Beavs recorded a season-high 49.275 to separate themselves from the visiting Scarlet Knights at the midways point of the meet.

Ranked fifth in the country coming into the meet, the OSU beam squad recorded their second-highest total of the season with a 49.375, led by Jade Carey's 9.975, including a 10.000 from one of the two judges.

The GymBeavs flexed their depth on floor to finish the meet, recording a 49.400, to cap off the night in Gill Coliseum. In her first routine in the lineup as a Beav, Julia Melchert brought the crowd to their feet one final time, posting a 9.850 to end the competition.

Oregon State will travel to Los Angeles tomorrow, before opening the Pac-12 slate at UCLA on Sunday. The meet between the No. 6 Bruins and No. 16 Beavs is set for 3 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network.
