VILLANOVA, Pa. – Oregon State head track and field coach Louie Quintana will be inducted into his alma mater's athletics hall of fame this weekend with Villanova celebrating his exploits as a student-athlete.
Â
The ceremony is set for January 28. Quintana is one of two runners in the class, joined by Marina Muncan. He was a seven-time NCAA All-American as a student-athlete at Villanova from 1991-1995, qualified for the 1992 Olympic Trials in the 1500 meters and competed in Europe multiple times.
Â
"I'm humbled and honored to go into the Villanova Hall of Fame. Villanova has a rich tradition in distance running and to be recognized for my accomplishments in my time there is pretty cool," Quintana said. "Forever grateful to my coaches and teammates at Villanova who were pivotal in my success on the Main Line."
Â
A seven-time All-American and a seven-time BIG EAST champion during his collegiate career, Quintana starred on both the track and in cross country for Villanova. He had 15 All-BIG EAST efforts and was a six-time IC4A champion, including four titles in track & field to go along with a pair of NCAA District II cross country championships.
Â
Quintana was a part of two Penn Relays Championship of America relay teams, including the 4x800 Meter Relay in 1992 and the 4x1500 Meter Relay in 1993. On May 23, 1993, he ran the metric equivalent of a sub-four-minute mile when he was clocked in 3:40.37 in the 1500 meters.
