July 17, 2022 | Baseball
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Former Oregon State infielder Caleb Hamilton became the 42nd Beaver to make his Major League debut Sunday when his Minnesota Twins took on the Chicago White Sox at Target Field.
Hamilton, who lettered for the Beavers from 2014-16, came on as a defensive substitution for catcher Gary Sanchez in the top of the eighth. He caught a foul ball for the Twins' first out of the inning. He later grounded out to short in the bottom half of the eighth.
Hamilton earned a call up to Minnesota on Friday from Triple-A St. Paul, where he was batting .252 with eight doubles, 10 home runs and 35 runs batted in while seeing action in 49 games.
The Woodinville, Wash., native was a 23rd-round draft choice by Minnesota in the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft. He played in 149 games over three seasons for the Beavers, where he batted .223 with 12 doubles, five triples, six home runs and 53 RBI.
He is the third Beaver to make his MLB debut this season, joining Steven Kwan (Cleveland Guardians) and Adley Rutschman (Baltimore Orioles).
