Oregon State Edged By Stanford In Series Finale

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Third-ranked Oregon State jumped out to an early five-run lead but Stanford scored eight unanswered runs as the Beavers dropped an 8-5 decision to the Cardinal Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Garret Forrester went 2-for-3 for the Beavers, driving in runs in the first on a single and third on a bases-loaded walk. Oregon State (20-7 overall, 7-5 Pac-12 Conference) scored four in the third, three on bases-loaded walks and one on a passed ball.
The Cardinal (14-9, 6-6), however, answered with three in the top half of the fourth and three more in the sixth to take a one-run advantage. A Tommy Troy double in the eighth pushed Stanford's lead to three.
Quinn Mathews, who struck out 10 in seven innings of relief, picked up the win to improve to 4-1. He allowed three hits and a run with four walks. Mitchell Verburg was charged with the loss after allowing two hits and three runs in an inning of relief. He is now 2-3 on the year.
