Baseball Scores 14 In Sweep Of Long Beach State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Justin Boyd drove in five runs and Wade Meckler went 3-for-3 with five runs scored to send No. 3 Oregon State to a 14-3 win over Long Beach State Saturday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field, giving the Beavers a sweep of the Dirtbags.

Boyd, Meckler and Jake Dukart all hit home runs for the Beavers, who improved to 27-7 this season and who are now on a seven-game win streak.

Meckler's leadoff home run began a 14-hit day for Oregon State, which saw seven different players record at least one. Garret Forrester went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Boyd, Dukart and Gavin Logan each had two hits.

Dukart hit his second home run of the season in the first, and the three-run blast pushed Oregon State to a five-run lead after the first frame. Boyd made it 8-0 in favor of the Beavers with a three-run blast in the second. That was his third long ball of the season.

LBSU (15-19) scored two in the third and one in the fifth, but the Beavers answered with a four-run sixth. Boyd and Forrester each drove in solo runs in the inning before Logan singled in a pair.

OSU capped the game's scoring on a sac fly by Boyd in the seventh.

Jacob Kmatz picked up his sixth win of the season, becoming the second pitcher in the Pac-12 Conference to reach that mark this season, joining 8-0 Cooper Hjerpe. Kmatz worked five full, scattering four hits and three runs while striking out five.

LBSU starter Zach Voelker was chased after 1 1/3 innings. He gave up seven runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one. Voelker took the loss to drop to 4-2 on the year.

- Thomas Dukart made his first career start, playing in center field and in the eighth spot of the lineup. Dukart had previously appeared as a pinch runner three times this season, most recently on Friday night against Long Beach State.
- Wade Meckler's leadoff home run marked Oregon State's first since Beau Philip on May 10, 2019 versus Oregon.
- Meckler, thanks to the home run in the first, has reached base safely in all 34 games this season.
- Oregon State's first-inning home runs ended the Beavers' long ball drought. The last homer was by Tanner Smith March 29 at Nevada. OSU had gone 10 straight without a home run.
