Beavers Outlast Wildcats to Win First Road Meet of the Season

Carey took home her eighth consecutive all-around with a 39.750 and has now scored 9.9s in 30 of 32 routines this season.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Oregon State gymnastics earned its first road victory Friday evening after taking down the University of Arizona 196.675-195.925. The victory is now the 12th straight win over the Wildcats and 15th inside the McKale Center as the Beavers improve to 8-2 overall and 5-2 during Pac-12 competition.

Oregon State began the dual meet with a 49.125 opening routine on bars. Senior Colette Yamaoka posted a 9.75 followed by Carley Beeman's 9.775 but a fall in the third spot slowed Oregon State's momentum down. Senior Madi Dagen started her night with a 9.80 routine while Kayla Bird added a career-best 9.875 in front of her home state. Freshman Jade Carey helped limit the damage to the rotation with a 9.95 title routine.

Leading after one, Kaitlin Garcia scored in her first career meet with a 9.80 as the leadoff on vault. Lauren Letzsch started her outstanding night with a 9.775 in the second spot followed by a 9.75 from Sydney Gonzales. In front of her home state, senior Kaitlyn Yanish proved to be a force in the lineup with a 9.85 while Dagen added another 9.80 routine. Carey captured her second title as the anchor with a 9.95.

In the third rotation, the Beavers found themselves having to battle through some setbacks. Looking to drop the first score on floor, Bird came up solid with a 9.825. Letzsch scored a career-best with a 9.95 performance just before Dagen added an 9.85. After an unfortunate injury from Yanish, Carey got the crowd roaring as the Arizona Beaver added a 9.925. As a team, OSU finished with its lowest score of the night of 49.075.

The fourth and final rotation proved to be the Beaver's best event of the night after the Orange & Black posted a 49.275. Ariana Young was inserted back in the lineup and delivered with a 9.85 leadoff routine followed by Letzsch's 9.75. Jenna Domingo came up big in the third spot, adding a 9.875 just before OSU registered another setback. Dagen got the Beavers back, collecting a 9.875 to finish her all-around night while Carey took another title with a 9.925 on beam.

Carey took home her eighth consecutive all-around with a 39.750 and has now scored 9.9s in 30 of 32 routines this season. Dagen scored her eighth all-around of the season, taking second with a 39.325.

UP NEXT
Oregon State's final regular season matchup will be in Denver, Colo. on March 13 as the Beavers compete in a quad-meet against No. 13 Denver, Arkansas and Nebraska. The action is slated to begin at 1 p.m. PT and will be aired via Denver's live stream.
