Pair of Beavers honored for performances against Stanford.
SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State gymnasts Jade Carey and Kaitlyn Yanish picked up Pac-12 weekly awards on Tuesday afternoon, the conference office announced. Carey earned her fifth Freshman of the Week selection, while Yanish collected the Specialist of the Week for the first time this season.
This is also the second time this season that a pair of Beavers pulled in weekly awards after Carey and Madi Dagen did so back on Feb. 8.
With the help of Carey and Yanish, the Beavers scored their fourth consecutive 197 and fifth of the season to conclude the home slate at a perfect 7-0 after defeating No. 19 Stanford, 197.225-195.05 on Senior Night.
Carey, who has now totaled eight conference nods in six weeks, tied her Beaver all-around record with a 39.825 against Stanford on Friday. Highlighting the competition was her third career Perfect 10 and second on the floor. The Phoenix, Ariz. native moves into second all-time in Oregon State history with three Perfect 10s and also holds the top four program all-around scores and seven of the eight top all-arounds through seven meets.
The Olympic gold medalist took home all five event titles against the Cardinal, including all-around (39.825), vault (9.95), bars (9.95), beam (9.925) and floor (10.0) and now holds 32 individual titles this season.
In her final home meet of her career, Yanish finished third on vault (9.825) before her great Beaver Nation farewell floor exercise of 9.95. With her first pass of a double layout split, her floor routine boasted second in the meet behind Carey. The 9.9 score is her fourth of the season on the event. The super senior also was recently nominated for the prestigious AAI Award.
Carey, Yanish and the Beavers are on the road for the remainder of the season, beginning at Arizona on Friday, March 4 at 5 p.m. PT. The final regular season contest is set for March 13 in Denver, Colo. for a quad-meet.
