Pair of Beavers honored for performances against Arizona State.
SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State gymnasts Jade Carey and Madi Dagen picked up Pac-12 weekly awards on Tuesday afternoon, the conference office announced. Carey was named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week for her second selection of the year, while Dagen earned the Pac-12 Coaches Choice Award for the first time this season.
Carey, who has now totaled four conference honors this season, surpassed her old Beaver all-around record with a nation's leading score of 39.825 against No. 21 Arizona State on Saturday. Highlighting the competition was her first career Perfect 10 on bars, becoming the first Beaver since Kaytianna McMillan did so in 2017.
The Olympic gold medalist took home all five event titles against the Sun Devils, wining all-around (39.825), vault (9.925), bars (10.0), beam (9.925) and floor (9.975) and now holds 20 individual titles this season. After five weeks of competition, Carey shares first with Olympic teammate and Auburn gymnast Suni Lee for the top all-around score while claiming the No. 1 spot on bars, tied for fifth on floor and No. 6 on beam.
Dagen earned the Coaches Choice Award after posting a personal-best 39.550 all-around against ASU, which was also the third highest score in the conference last week behind Carey and 2020 Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Jordan Chiles from UCLA.
The senior performed a breakout bar routine with a career-high 9.90 to help the Beavers score their highest bar score this season of 49.275. Throughout the last year and a half, Dagen has worked tirelessly to perfect her Tkatchev skill which upgrades her bar routine to a 10.0. Dagen also finished second on Saturday behind Carey on vault (9.90), beam (9.90) and floor (9.925) while adding a 9.825 beam routine.
Carey, Dagen and the Beavers are back in action this Sunday, Feb. 13 to host Washington. The "Dam Change" meet is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. and will be available on Oregon State's Livestream.
