Jade Carey Honored as Pac-12 Gymnast and Freshman of the Week
February 15, 2022 | Women's Gymnastics
SAN FRANCISCO – Freshman Jade Carey earned two Pac-12 weekly awards following her performance in the Pac-12 meet against Washington, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. This is the second time this season Carey has pulled in both Gymnast of the Week and Freshman of the Week.
Carey, who has now totaled six conference honors this season, scored her first career Perfect 10 on floor just one week after boasting a Perfect 10 on Bars to help Oregon State defeat Washington, 197.275-194.450.
Carey becomes the first Beaver since Tasha Smith in 2008 to notch a perfect score on the floor apparatus and joins Chari Knight as just the second OSU gymnast to have 10.0s on more than one event.
The Olympic gold medalist took home three event titles against the Huskies, including all-around (39.750), bars (9.975) and floor (10.0). With the help of Carey, the Beavers scored their highest floor routine of the season of 49.675 which was also just 0.025 shy of tying the program record.
During her young Beaver career, Carey has scored a 9.90 or better in 19-20 routines with 23 individual titles. She now holds the OSU school record in the all-around with a 39.825 and ranks first in the nation in the all-around with a 39.760 average.
Carey and the Orange & Black have a quick turnaround as the Beavers immediately hit the road for a matchup at No. 3 Utah on Friday, Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. PT inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
