CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State gymnasts Jade Carey and Madi Dagen were named to the 2023 Pac-12 Women's Gymnastics Preseason Watch List, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.
"Jade and Madi continue to work hard every day in training to build on the great things they've already accomplished for our program," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "They are both deserving of this recognition, and I can't wait to see all their hard work come together this season."
Carey returns for her sophomore campaign, after a freshman year that saw the 2020 Olympic Gold Medalist hit all 40 of her routines. She finished the 2022 season with three perfect 10.0s, while taking silver in the uneven bars and fourth in the all-around at the 2022 NCAA Championships.
The Phoenix native earned three Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week and six Pac-12 Freshman of the Week titles, en route to being named the 2022 Pac-12 Gymnast and Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, compiling scores of 9.9 or better in 38 of her 40 routines.
Dagen returns for her fifth and final season in 2023, after competing in the all-around in every competition during the 2022 season, contributing a total of 431.85 points for the Beavs. On vault, she earned a season-high 9.925 on two different occasions, while scoring above 9.900 four times.
The Pleasanton, Calif. native put together her best meet of the season at Utah, scoring a 39.5750 in the all-around competition against the Utes. In her first season competing bars at every competition, Dagen earned a career best 9.90 against Arizona State inside of Gill Coliseum.
Carey, Dagen and the rest of the GymBeavs open their home slate welcoming Sacramento State, Brown and Denver to Gill Coliseum in a quad meet on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. The 2023 home schedule features five opportunities to see the Beavs, including four opponents ranked inside the Top 25 of the WCGA Preseason Poll.
