November 26, 2022 | Football
CORVALLIS, Ore. – No. 21 Oregon State used 21 points in the fourth quarter to stun No. 9 Oregon, 38-34, in the season finale in Reser Stadium.
Facing a 31-10 deficit in the late stages of the third quarter, Oregon State flipped the script with a 21-3 fourth to take the Rivalry Series win.
Isaiah Newell rushed for his first two scores – from 15 yards and one, respectively – in the fourth quarter to help lead the comeback. Ben Gulbranson ran for a pair of touchdowns on short jaunts to aid the effort.
Kitan Oladapo led the Beavers defense with 17 tackles, including seven solo stops. Omar Speights tallied 13 tackles, three of which were unassisted.
Damien Martinez's 103 yards on the ground led the OSU rushing attack, while Gulbranson tossed for 60 yards on six completions.
After taking a 10-7 advantage into the second quarter, the Ducks exploded for 24 unanswered points for their biggest advantage of the day behind a Bo Nix touchdown toss and a pair of rushing scores. Showing signs of life in the third, Deshaun Fenwick plunged in for a four-yard score to stop the bleeding and bring the score to 31-17.
Following an Oregon field goal to go up 17 early in the fourth, the Beavers' comeback effort was on. The Newell and Gulbranson rushes for scores brought Oregon State within three at 34-31.
Newell found the endzone for a second and final time to give the Beavers the lead – their first since it was 10-7 – at 38-34 and needed just one more stop from the defense. Oregon marched their way down the field by Nix 72 yards but were stopped on fourth and goal to seal the Beavers win.
