Beavers Clinch Fifth at Dellinger Invite
September 23, 2021 | Women's Cross Country
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Oregon State women's cross country team finished fifth overall as a team with 170 points at the Dellinger Invite, hosted by Oregon in Springfield, Ore. on Thursday. Redshirt sophomore Grace Fetherstonhaugh notched a tenth-place finish and was the first Beaver across the finish line.
"Sort of a mixed feeling about this race. We were good up front with Grace Fetherstonhaugh and Kaylee Mitchell and I thought they ran tremendously, but I think we executed poorly today. Part of it was we didn't trust getting out and we were a little too patient," said head coach Louie Quintana. "We had to race so hard from a mile in to the rest of the race. The last two miles were aggressive for us, and at some point you just run out of energy. I think we got to a point, maybe with a mile to go, when we started to feel like moving up and we stayed in fifth place the rest of the way. It was a mixed reaction, I mean, fifth place is still a good run at the this meet, so we'll take it. We need to make sure that key girls get healthy coming off of this meet. I feel like we have three key girls that are going to be a big factor on our team this year as we move forward."
Fetherstonhaugh set pace for the Beavers, posting a 6K personal best of 20:21.5. Redshirt sophomore Kaylee Mitchell placed 17th with a personal best 6K time of 20:28.6. Graduate student Alyssa Foote was next to cross the finish line (21:01.9, PR), followed by junior Mari Friedman (21:09.2) and senior Audrey Lookner (21:09.8).
