Beavers Defeat Fresno State, 2-1

Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State women's soccer team defeated Fresno State, 2-1, on Sunday in Corvallis, Ore. and are now 2-0 in non-conference action.
"Today we competed against a Fresno State team that challenged our ability on the ball and off the ball," said head coach Lauren Sinacola. "I'm proud of the effort our players put in today and we are excited about the opportunity to learn from this win and continue our growth as a team."
Coming out strong early, freshman McKenna Martinez took a shot at the 3-minute mark, but it was caught by the goalkeeper. At thirteen minutes in, red-shirt junior Helena Brown found the net with an assist from Martinez to give Oregon State its first goal of the afternoon.
In the second half, sophomore Amber Jackson put the Beavers up 2-0 over the Bulldogs at the 49-minute mark with an assist from junior Sophie Conrad.
Fresno State's Sam Tristan pushed past Oregon State's defense at the 62nd minute, giving the Bulldogs their sole goal of the game. The Beavers held firm to their lead, capping regulation play with a final score of 2-1.
The Beavers tallied six shots on goal and six corner kicks over the course of the game. Defensively, senior Bridgette Skiba notched four saves on the afternoon.

The Beavers will host Idaho on Friday, Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. before heading to Albuquerque, N.M. to face New Mexico on Sunday, Aug. 29 at noon.
