Mitchell Wraps Competition at NCAA Championships
November 20, 2021 | Women's Cross Country
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Redshirt sophomore Kaylee Mitchell represented the Oregon State women's cross country team at the NCAA Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday. The Salem, Ore. native placed 77th overall out of 250 competitors with a time of 20:20.3.
"Kaylee ran valiantly," said head coach Louie Quintana. "She got a slow start and was about in the 150s early in the race, so she just kept moving up. You get to a certain point where it just becomes really hard to keep passing these elite runners, but I'm proud of her. She has fought all year and she is determined, as am I, to have our entire team lining up next fall."
BYU's Whittni Orton clinched the individual title with a time of 19:25.3, and NC State took the team title with 84 points.
Mitchell's time of 20:20.3 was a mere five seconds from her 6K personal-best of 20:15.8, set at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento, Calif.
Throughout the season, Mitchell has set pace for the Beavers. She placed sixth with a time of 20:51.7 at the Pac-12 Championships on Oct. 29, earning First-Team All-Conference honors and leading Oregon State to a sixth-place team finish. At the NCAA West Regional on Nov. 12, she collected All-Region accolades for her 12th-place finish, helping OSU land seventh in the team standings.
